New Olympus Offers Live Preview Through LCD

March 27, 2006: In our upcoming second show, Michael and I make reference to the newest DLSR from Olympus, the E-330 (could these names be any more generic) that allows for a first-ever live preview through the LCD. This means you can compose your pictures not just through the viewfinder, but through the LCD on the back of the camera - just like with a point-and-shoot model.

This is a neat feature, and I think it would come in really handy for composing pictures like landscapes where you have time to get the composition perfect.

In another sweet feature, the camera is available in your choice of one of six packages that are configured for nature photographers, macro/medical shooters, underwater usage, etc. The packages combine the E-330 with the appropriate lens and other accessories you’ll need to get the job done.

You can read all about the availabe packages by following this link to Cameratown.

Unfortunately, the camera itself got only a tepid recommendation on the indespensible DPReview. They found that the implementation of the live preview was flawed, and that image quality was a “mixed bag.” You can read their take here.
