April 9, 2006: Both Michael and I have lusted after the small and sexy Canon SD550 when it was selling for almost $500. Now that Canon is about to release a slew of new shooters, the price of the SD550 is plummeting to near-irresistable levels.

Amazon has it for $319, along with a $22.99 credit towards a SD card. You also get a coupon code for a free hardcover book from Shutterfly (up to a $39.99 value). Why this camera practically pays for itself!

My only problem is that the SD550 doesn’t have the wonderful swivel screen that I’ve come to love on Canon’s point and shooters. That feature has saved my knees on many occassions when I’d otherwise have to get on the floor to take picutures of my kids.

For the swivel screen, I’d have to look towards the also heavily-discounted Canon A620. The problem with that camera, though, is that its not pocketable.

Decisions, decision.
