Thanks for joining us for the superb seventh episode of the Digital Photography Show!

The theme of today’s show is getting creative and artistic with your pictures. Sure, we can all take a shot that captures objective reality. But how about creating a more imaginative or abstract vision?

One way is by using a Lensbaby, an inexpensive add-on that helps you create dreamy and selectively-focused personal expressions. We talk to Craig Strong, the inventor of the Lensbaby today, and, in our best contest ever, we’ll tell you how to win a free Lensbaby 2.0 and a macro attachment. You have got to check this out!

Michael and I also give some other ideas for how to be more artistic with your images. I discuss the technique of using your zoom during a long exposure. Here’s an example of the kind of abstraction I achieved using this technique on a snow covered tree.

I also share a super-easy Photoshop technique for giving a lovely, soft-focus glow to your landscapes. Here’s an example of a shot that was pretty in the original image, but a little more magical after applying this fix.

Michael talks about how he goes for abstract macros that don’t look like anything you’d see with your naked eye, but are right out there in your front lawn waiting for you to capture them.

As always, thanks for listening. Please let us know what you think of the show by leaving a comment below. And we’d be especially grateful if you’d leave a positive review on iTunes or Yahoo Podcasts. We’re very insecure, you know.

Hey guys, this is Eric Skiff from The Alternative Music Show

I just wanted to let you know that I’m really digging the show! I just took a ton of photos out in Vegas and California and I’m using tools to create HDR images and Panoramas from them, as well as taking lots of macro shots just like the ones featured here.

I’m always eager to learn more tips and tricks, so I’m subscribed!

If you haven’t had a chance to check out photojojo yet, give it a look. It’s an incredible newsletter with lots and lots of tips for making the most of your digital photography. They might have a trick or two up their sleeves that you hadn’t heard of, and I’m sure they’d love to hear about your tools and tricks as well!

    Keep up the great work!

    -Eric

I’ve been a digiphile for about 7 years now. I shoot a boatload of frames every year ( and keep most all of ‘em) I just recently got into podcasting and found you guys, so I’m trying to catch up, but I’m listening really fast. You have an awsome show that’s jampacked with info. Keep it going.

  11. Bob Dale Says:

The old version of lens baby is still alot of fun. You could find one very cheap on ebay.
