CNET Nikon D80 Review: Hearts and Flowers All Around
September 9, 2006: I know, I know, some of you are trying to resist temptation, but I have bad new for you - CNET totally hearts the rockin’ new Nikon D80.
Read the full review here, but first check out this fawning excerpt:
With the D80, Nikon has proven that it is very much still pushing ahead strongly. With 10.2 megapixels, lightning-fast performance, high-quality images with very low noise, and a heaping pile of convenience features, Nikon’s D80 will not disappoint. We’re just eager to see how it stacks up to Canon’s Rebel XTi, which is due to hit stores just weeks from now. But, if you already own some Nikon lenses and have been waiting for an affordable 10.2-megapixel dSLR, this one is a sure winner.

Thanks Scott,
I ate this review right up, chomp chomp…heheh, only kidding. I’m vacilating between the D80 and the D200 and that $700 price difference makes a big difference, unless you are Bill Gates that is.
I loved this weeks show as always. You had me laughing over the PTA within minutes of listening to you. I was ready to write a $40 check to take care of things to make them move on just hearing about it. They should hire you for a marathon to bump up school funds…LOL. You had me in the palm of your hands.
I’m off to take some surf shots today, high tide is a 1:30 and the waves are rolling in by the looks of it on the live cam. I got hooked up with microphotography sites all over the globe (I’m on 6 different ones) and the Europeans seem to like my surfer and California photos the most. iStock is still selling the most but most photographers agree when I go into the forums that it pays more to have your photos at several sites. iStock has a slower acceptance process sometimes up to 10 days, and the extra % is not worth the sales you miss at other sites… and then they have a higher rejection rate than the others so you wait all this time to find out they have enough of this type of photo. It’s not always about the quality.
Well have a great day guys….can’t wait to hear who won the contest. That sure sounds like a great program.

Denise,
Where do you take your surf shots? Are you a So. Cal. girl?
I like to go to Huntington Beach for my surf shots (and shots of generally beautiful people).
Are any of your shots online (blog, flickr., etc)?
I’ve got a few surf and beach pix at http://www.flickr.com/photos/allenrockwell

Thanks Allen…really enjoyed your Flickr photos. My duaghter lives in Huntington Beach. Small world…. I’m near Santa Cruz in the mountains about 10 miles from the ocean.

Denise,
Why upgrade from the D70 (saw on Flickr) to the D80 or D200? Keeping up with the Joneses? :-)
I don’t understand the $700 price difference you mentioned between the two models. Looks like they’re w/in $100 of eachother for the body only.
I can only dream of getting a camera in this range, as I was stretching things to get my Panasonic FZ30 last year and that was only $550 then. but I envy the sharpness and cleanness of the Nikon lenses. :-(
