It has a free trial, so well worth downloading and taking a look at. Without doing anything other than processing, it does a very nice job with the photos. Has all the import into project, organize/select, tweak, process features of Lightroom, although I don’t know what it has in the way of printing help since that isn’t a concern for me. I always send my photos off to be printed. Can’t be bothered with the hassle/expense of printing at home…

I hope I get the hang of this! I think if I can get the hang of it, I will like it.

p.s. The smaller size was also > $70 less than the 6×8. Leaves me some money for SnapArt.

You can almost be sure that it will be part of the upcoming Creative Suite 3 (CS3) or some version of it.

If you really do have a tight budget make sure you look into acedemic versions … identical in every way except price. You just need to be a student, teacher or know one that can get it for you. Check out journeyed.com

Just thought I’d share this Adobe Lightroom tip which I found. I am running Lightroom on a Windows 1.8 Ghz laptop with 512Mb RAM and no dedicated graphics card so you can see how Lightroom would be a struggule for it. However, after finding this option, Lightroom is now running very efficiently!

All you have to do is tick for box which says “Render Standard Previews” instead of “Use Embedded and Sidecar Previews” when importing your photos. I presume the loading of embedded previews is what made it go so slow for me in the beginning.

P.S. Does anyone have any ideas on how much Lightroom is going to cost as I am enjoying using it but if it’s out of my budget, I dont want to become too dependent on it!

I also want to buy the full version of Snap Art as well. So I have figured that into my thinking. (This podcast is dangerous for the wallet.)

I have been reading that the Graphire is very nice. Some even prefer the smaller work size (4×5) because it fits better on the desk.

I am no artist but I do enjoy playing with my photos. Anyone able to comment on the differences between the graphire and intuos from a practical perspective (i.e., tried both)?

I listened to the podcast, so I know the Intuos is more pressure sensitive, but I wonder if I need to spend $300 for that. I am open to it though . . . .

Anyone?

Alan - I looked to see if the Peachpit site made mention of a discount on the hard copy, but they don’t. But who needs the hard copy anyway? It’s 2006. Download an ebook and save a tree!

So… if you buy his eBook on Lightroom will you get a copy of the final hard copy when it’s completed?….or at the very least a substantial discount??…hint hint.

I’m also interested in when Kelby’s PS Elements v5 book will be available. As much as I really WANT to buy the full Photoshop, so far I’m getting along with Lightroom and PS Elements.
