March 25, 2007: Welcome to the Funky Forty Fourth Episode of The Digital Photography Show.

Today we feature several interviews from PMA 2007 in Las Vegas.

We start with an interview with Michael from lynda.com. The folks at lynda.com have a tremendous online training library for digital photography applications as well as a wide range of other subjects. They provide a subscription service which unlocks their full library during your subscription period. Subscribe monthly, or annualy. Usually their demos unlocks the library for 24 hours, but this special promotion makes the library available for a 7 Day Free Trial.

If you’re smart, work fast, and have a lot of time in the next 168 hours, you can pretty much learn anything you need to learn in life in the next week. For free! Go ahead, give it a try.

Then we chat with our old friend, and our advertiser, Luc Marin, from DxO. We learn what’s new in the latest update of version 4.2 of DxO Optics Pro. Luc also shared the news about DxO Film Pack. Film Pack comes in three flavors: 1) a stand-alone application. 2) a Photoshop plugin. 3) An integrated add-on to DxO Optics Pro. Don’t forget the 20% discount for DPS listeners on DxO products.

Michael Steavenson from FujiFilm tells us about their latest cameras and technologies. Michael was a great guy, lots of fun, and we really love the super-featured little Fuji compacts.

Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI is a popular and powerful image editing tool. CPSPP guru Doug tells us about what makes this low-priced/high-end software so special. The folks at Corel are giving away one copy of Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI to one our our lucky listeners. Listen to the show for the details. The due date for entries is April 15, 2007.

Last week, we started our third photo contest: Food on the Move. The theme is food and the technique is motion, whether implied (with motion blurs) or frozen motion (no blurs). Our sponsor for this contest is Wacom, and they will give away the Wacom Graphire 6×8 Bluetooth. A $249.95 value! Imagine using a tablet without being encumbered with wires (and, really, when is encumberment ever good?). If you want to see the photos we received throughout the contest period, we will routinely post them on our DPS Phanfare site. See show 43 for the rules.

As always, a special thank you to our sponsor, Alien Skin, and to our advertiser, DxO. You can get a substantial discount on Alien Skin’s hottest products by calling and saying you heard about them on The Digital Photography Show and save 20% on DXO Optics Pro with the checkout code DPSSHOW.

We are incredibly proud to feature these companies on the show. Check out their free trial downloads today!

As always, thanks for listening to our show and for your comments on the blog. You are the sunshine of our lives.

Have an inspired photo making week!

Michael (and Scott. But mostly Michael)

Thank you both for another great show. Loved the info on Paintshop Pro Photo. Will download the trial today!
Food on the move, I can’t wait to see what people post. I will be trying for that great Wacom Tablet.

  2. Mike Despot Says:

WOW!! I am so so completly impressed by the early entries into the thrid contest. They are works of art. I am intimidated to even enter this month, but I will just to participate.
Is there a reason I do not see any titles or photographer names this month??
    Mike

Another great show guys. You really should name this months podcasts “Christmas in March”, man did you guys score at the Las Vegas show. I have to admit that I have been interested in the Lynda site but have not tried it until now. Thanks for getting us the week long demo.

I have to agree with Mike above that the photos turned in so far are GREAT and I also now doubt if I should turn in an entry but I think I’ll have too any way.

Thanks again for a great show and I can’t wait till next week…..

    Hello Scott and Michael:
I have just received the copy of Vista For Dummies, which I won on your show.

    Many thanks.

I’m not sure when I will get to use it, as my XP computers are still fairly new.

Thanks again and love your show.

    Regards

  6. Chris Cosper Says:

    Hi Scott and Michael-

I really enjoy listening to show while I drive into work. (I have been listening to the archived podcasts and have almost caught up to the current March show.) So excuse me if this question has been answered someplace else already.

In various shows, you both mentioned DXO Optics Pro and Bibble as two great options for RAW processing. The interviews with both representatives really helped fill in more details on the individual product. Now for the tough question, would you recommend one over the other to someone looking to process their RAW images outside of Adobe Camera RAW? I have downloaded both and they produce a good image using diffent input from the user. I know there are probably functions in both applicationas that I am not taking advantage of due to the amount of time I have been able to devote to it. I would really like to focus on one and learn more but since they both produce similar results the decision is a little difficult.

I want to spend more time on my image taking and less on the post-processing work but cannot purchase both so any help you could give would be great.

    Keep up the good work,
    Chris
