CNET Ranks the Top Budget DSLRs

May 29, 2007: CNET rated the top five affordable DSLR’s and I was surprised by the point spread between the number-one Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT and its competition.

Here are the scores:

  1. Canon Rebel XT: 8 out of 1o
  2. Nikon D40: 7.5
  3. Pentax K110D: 7.5
  4. Pentax K100D: 7.5
  5. Olympus EVOLT E-500: 7.1

You can read the shootout here.

Not much of a shootout, so much as a collection of reviews of competiting entry level D-SLR’s. If they had reviewed them all at once, maybe I’d consider it a shootout. But the Rebel XT was reviewed 2 years ago, I am assuming shortly after it came out. That and the Nikon D40 are probably the leaders in this catagory. But, the “ratings” on those 2 cameras have existed for 2 years, and almost 6 months respectively, so there shouldn’t be any real surprises here.

I have just started listening to the podcast, so I am trying to catch up, but in one of the podcast, you mentioned that you used a tablet pc. Can you tell me the benefits of the tablet versus a regular laptop.

By the way, I shoot Canon
