The Digital Photography Show #54: Adobe Raw, PC World Top 100 and the Secret Origin of The Digital Photography Show
The Digital Photography Show #54: Adobe Raw, PC World Top 100 and the Secret Origin of The Digital Photography Show (29Mb, 79 mins)
June 8, 2007: Welcome to the fifty-fourth episode of The Digital Photography Show!
You know how it goes…a few weeks of guests and then Michael and I like to catch up just with each other. And you.
Today, we cover a few things in the news such as the latest update to Adobe Camera Raw, the PC World Top 100 Products List, and we reflect on our latest photo contest.
We also tell you about Scott’s t-shirt design (see post below).
Michael and I have some questions for you this week:
- Would you like to volunteer to post the pictures for our photography contests? It would take you a few hours a week. We’ll try to find a goody that you might enjoy for your troubles, but you’d mostly be doing it for the, um, glory.
- Do you know a great easy-to-use website design program that will allow me to insert a blog (either through Wordpress or Typepad)?
- Would you be interested in doing a photography workshop/retreat with us and some of your fellow listeners?
Send us your answers at TheDigitalPhotographyShow@gmail.com.
Then, it’s onto The Secret Origin of The Digital Photography Show. Michael and I talk about how we met, how we got started podcasting, and what personal challenges we had to overcome to be any good at this. We also share our triumphs and our undying appreciation for you, without whom none of this would be possible.
We’d love to hear what you thought of the show either here on the blog or at TheDigitalPhotographyShow@gmail.com.
Thanks to our advertiser DXO (www.dxo.com) for the 20% discount they are only offering to listeners of this show. Try the program for free, and when you’re ready to buy, use the code DPSSHOW.
And don’t forget the fifty buck discount on Alien Skin’s Snap Art (http://www.alienskin.com/snapart/index.html) and the 50% discount on Exposure (http://www.alienskin.com/exposure/index.html) . Just call and tell them you heard about it on The Digital Photography Show.
Thanks to everyone for listening and joining us here on the blog.
Listener David sent me this Mark Twain quote, which I’ll reproduce for you here. It sums up a lot of my attitude about life, and is the kind of thinking which has allowed Michael and me put so much of ourselves into the show:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover”
Isn’t that true? And that’s the theme of today’s show. Whether you want to write a book, compose a song, enter a photo contest, climb a mountain, create great art or just learn more about it – do it. “Throw off the bowlines.”
We’ll see you on the other shore.
Scott

Great show! I for one enjoyed hearing about - The Digital Photography Show - The Early Years (episodes). Or “The Making of a Podcast”? It’s fun to hear all the behind-the-scenes stuff.
Thanks Scott and Michael for the show!

Oh no you didn’t Scott!
How dare you think I’m “much too fancy” for you. :)
I’ve been SOOOOOO busy lately with other things …if you actually listened to my podcast (like I listen to yours) you’d know that already!
OK, I got the message … I just sent you guys an audio greeting for your next podcast.
Love you guys. Take care.
Great show,
Allen

Hey, we took a risk on this one, exposing ourselves and pulling back the curtain a bit, but we really do feel as if we’re all friends. Glad you liked it. For those of you who were thinking “when are these two idiots going to get back to talking about photography…” next week, we promise!

Hi…just to let you know I’ve been listening to your show for about 6 months, and today heard how you set up your podcast. Was stunned to find that you were both ‘amateur’ photographers - just assumed from the show that you were both professionals. You are both so respected it’s unbelievable. We love your show here in the UK, and I’ll certainly be promoting your show over here. Thanks again guys.

As always, a great podcast. Thank you. Loved the history behind the two of you. Like Diane I figured you were both pros. You had us all pretty well fooled. :-)

Wow, what a great episode (I’m catching up on my shows….).
I found this podcast when you were in the thirties and I assumed that you were mover and shakers because you had amazing guests. I would never have guessed the origins of this show from listening to it, but now it makes complete sense. You ask the questions that we want to ask because you are just like us and that makes it fun to listen to.
And I love that you talk about yourselves and invite us into your lives. That is one of the reasons I listen to this show above others and recommend it to all my friends.
