Churning Out of the Rumor Mill: The Canon 5D Mark II and New Sony Alphas
July 6, 2007. Engadget today reported on rumors of three new DSLRs that may see the light of day.
The less credible of the claims are the ones about an update to the much-loved Canon 5D - cleverly named the Canon 5D Mark II. No word about what features it may have, but it does have a “Mark II” label on it.
One poster on Engadget confidently asserted “New canon Dslr will be annouced in late august for a fall release. We can expect new 5D, new 40D (30D), every models that approach their 18th months.” Well, I’ll believe it when I see it.

Meanwhile, it does seem that Sony is releasing two new Alphas: Sony is describing them as the “Flagship” and “Advanced Amateur” models. I’ve read elsewhere that one of these cameras is supposed to be full frame. The one pictured below certainly looks big enough to encompass a full frame, two extra batteries, a vertical grip and possibly a small kitten.

I generally recommend Canons or Nikons to DSLR shoppers, but I do have to admit that the Alpha line is full-featured, sexy and promising.
Engadget’s take on the new Sony’s is here.
