I couldn't understand some parts of this article The Digital Photography Show #59: Rick Sammon’s Top Ten Tips for Ultimate Travel Photography, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

Jason - THanks for nice words. We're looking at doing something with video, but its not easy and the technology isn't quite there yet to make anything that's universally playable. We may do the iPod format, but that leaves out other players - although you could still watch it on your computer in iTunes. And it wouldn't be every show - after all, much of the show is me and Michael, and who wants to wathc us? But maybe for shows where we talk about pictures some video would be helpful.

Marc, I think it's out already.

Tom W - thanks for the hint!

I would agree that as far as podcasts go, DPS and TFTTF are probably two of the most popular. Don't forget though, there are also vid-casts and these tend to draw more attention as we are a visual crowd! :) A few that come to mind are the photoshopTV one that comes out of NAPP, and another coming from a site known as Radiant Vista. Not sure if The Online Photographer has any regularly published media in the form of a podcast, blog, or vid-cast, but that's also a good resource. Will be looking for the DPS on the awards site to cast my vote! Great job guys, and thanks for all you do!

Yes, you are right. The aperture is only stopped down when the shutter button is pressed or the depth of field preview button is pressed. The rest of the time, the lens is at its largest aperture meaning that the viewfinder is bright and autofocus functions well.

Scott,

In the interview with Rick you mention 'I can focus faster too when my aperture is wide open'. I assume you meant that more light helps the camera to focus faster, which is true. But AFAIK the lens is only stopped down to the smaller aperture after you've achieved focus and press the shutter button, i.e. when composing the shot the lens is wide open. Is this correct or am I missing something?

Thanks
Ruan

Alan, there are a few companies who make 5-in-1 reflectors, in a variety of sizes. Here's a link to those sold by B&H, for example: http://tinyurl.com/235ya5

Why don't you go up against TFTTF in the education category. I think you're by far the best 2 podcasts out there - would have been nice to see how you measure up against each other.

Hey Everyone!

The "Little Critters in Duotone" Contest is offically closed. I have just updated the Phanfare Contest Page as of 11.30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Monday, July 16th. We have a total of 377 entries! I noticed some entries in the SPAM box - so if you were wondering why your pictures were not posted until now - it was probably there.

There are some amazing photographs. This community continues to inspire me! Good Luck to everyone with the contest..

Cheers,
Laurel

Allen - I thought you were sending me one of those lenses for my birthday - what happened?

Mark, you are absolutely correct - many pros use cameras other than Nikon or Canon. Fuji and Sigma come to mind as popular among wedding photographers because of their excellent rendition of skin tones. What I SHOULD have said is that among pros who are out there teaching workshops, everyone I ever met shoots Canon or Nikon.

Just listening to the show now, You mention that you don't know of any pro's using cameras other than canon or nikon. Well my partner and I are both professional photographers and we both shoot with olympus, I have an E300 and my partner has an E500. I've used olympus for years now, my partner previously used Fuji digital and nikon 35mm.
Great show, keep up the great work.
Mark (www.markvarleyphoto.co.uk) & Jan (www.murphysfocus.com).

PS, is there a website banner for linking to the show?

Scott,
I am listening to the latest podcast right now, I just got to the point when you mentioned your interest in the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. Rent it, use it, then FOR SURE you will buy it. This is Canon's very best lens in my opinion (and in the opinion of people that know a lot more than me about lenses).

The only thing that could possibly be better would be a 100-400mm f/2.8L IS but we'll never see one of those since it would be about 6" in diameter, about 10lbs and 2' long :)

I am listening to the latest podcast right now, I just got to the point when you mentioned your interest in the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. Rent it, use it, then FOR SURE you will buy it. This is Canon’s very best lens in my opinion (and in the opinion of people that know a lot more than me about lenses).

The only thing that could possibly be better would be a 100-400mm f/2.8L IS but we’ll never see one of those since it would be about 6″ in diameter, about 10lbs and 2′ long :)
