August 10, 2007: Welcome to the sixty third episode of The Digital Photography Show!
By the time you read this there’s either one day left in the voting for The Podcast Awards, or the voting has closed.
We’d like to thank you for your support. You guys have been incredible. Now comes the waiting – some of the winners won’t be announced till the end of September!
But whatever the outcome, we were nominated for awards in two categories and we heard from many of you that you were voting every day. To have done so well our first time out and to receive such incredibly kind wishes from our listeners – I guess you could say we’re already winners.
So: thank you, thank you, thank you! Whatever happens next is the cherry – you guys are the cake.
Today we judge our fifth photo contest: Little Creatures in a Little Color. Our special guest judge is Rudy Winston, manager of the Technical Information Department at Canon’s camera division.
We knew Rudy was technical guru, but who knew that he’d be an aesthetic genius, too? Michael and I were blown away by Rudy’s insightful, supportive and illuminating critiques of the great photos submitted for this contest – you can see them here.
Our winner will receive a Wacom Graphire4 6×8. Can you say “bling?†Its ample work space allows you have fun with your digital photos in any creative project. You can quickly and easily edit your digital photos with 512 levels of pressure sensitivity, a natural feel, and superior performance. Thanks, Wacom!
You may want to be at the computer while we judge this contest to view the photos while we talk about them. Alternatively, if you have an iPod or iTunes, check out our home page www.TheDigitalPhotographyShow.com in about two weeks – we’re going to have an “enhanced†version of this podcast that allows you to view the photos on your video iPod, iPhone or on iTunes.
Listen twice!
We also pump Rudy (but in a nice way) for information about the hotly anticipated Canon 40D. Rumors were flying wild over the net about this camera in the past few days – you can see one example here.
Unfortunately, Rudy would have fared well during the Inquisition: He’s pretty good a keeping his mouth shut. But he did promise to come back on the show as soon as he’s free to tell us about what’s the next big thing from Canon.
Much love to Laurel, Queen of All Photo Contests. This was her first photo contest, and she performed flawlessly. Let’s see if she stick around for another! You can check out the Queen’s blog at www.thephotoenthusiast.com.
Please remember to sign up for email notifications from our show! We will pick one subscriber at random to win either a copy of onOne’s Plug-In Suite 3 for Adobe Photoshop, Alien Skin’s Snap Art or Rick Sammon’s DVD “Rick Sammon Live.†You get to choose.

Good luck with the Podcast Awards guys… I talked my whole family into voting for you daily (and to start listening, of course!), and used my plethora of emails to vote as many times as I could daily.
Now the wait begins…

Sept 2 could be a real date for the Canon 40D. Circuit City stores in the Philadelphia area have pulled the 30D from the displays (although the boxed cameras are in the locked cabinet below the display) and the price tags have been removed.

I heavily doubt that the successor to the 30D will be called the 40D for a couple of reason. Canon does not use the number 4 in their model numbers, if you look at their P&S line up you’ll see that there is no S4 IS nor a G4. They both go from 3 to 5. I think that the new camera will be called the 50D or will be called something all new.

Great show this week guys…enjoyable review of the finalists even without the notes or photos. No link on the blog page though for the photo gallery of finalists though… keep up the great work though.
Looking forward to the 40D whenever it does come out! :)

Jason – the link to the pictures from the photo contest is the last word of the seventh paragraph above.
Interesting buzz, C and N.S. And thanks for your votes – and your advocacy, JD.
(BTW – What’s with all the initials? Have I accidently stepped into an AA meeting?)

Egad, so it is…my tired old eyes must have missed that at work. No fears, my glasses are on now and I can see it is the case. A thousand pardons, Scott. Perhaps that’s why you guys have been nominated for a podcast award (two of em actually), and I struggle along in anonymity with the measly 3 for our regional site! LOL No worries, I voted for you in both categories every day. I hope y’all win – been pimping the show for ya to the SC crew too, so hopefully they rocked the vote as well. Thanks again for all you do.

Hi:
I have some photographs that I might like to sell and was wondering if you could speak about how to put a copyright watermark in my images also tips on selling images and what to watch out for. I don’t own a
DSLR but do own a Canon A630.
I have have several thousand images, both negatives and slides from my Minolta X700 – 35mm days.
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements and IrfanView, but neither of these seem to use watermarks, can you recommend maybe a free software that
does this?
Thanks for any assistance
Allan

Hi,
I just found your podcast and was immediately hooked. You guys have a great show. Love your sense of humor Scott! I was wondering how you enter the photo contests you mention in the podcasts?
Thanks,
Ken

I’ve listening to the DPS since December 2007 – started at episode 1 and I’m gradually catching up with you. This is as far as I’ve got so far. Started listening to episode #63 where you mentioned that you would be doing an enhanced version of this episode. So I paused the podcast to switch over to it, I’ve not been able to find the enhanced version. Did it ever happen?
