Want A Better World? Help Us Make It.

August 14, 2007: I want to share with y’all that I’m very excited – I’ve launched a new podcastThe Better World Show.  Getting this show off the ground has been a goal of mine for a long time.   Here’s a short description of it from the show’s homepage:

Global warming. A crisis in someplace called Darfur. Abuse of animals. AIDS in Africa. Human rights violations, genocides, poverty.

They all sound so terrible. So overwhelming. Someone should do something. But who?

How about you?

The Better World Show is about what you can do to make the world a, well, better place. A kinder, fairer, safer and healthier planet on which all of us can live.

Every week (or so) we’ll give you just enough information to get the broad strokes of what’s going on out there. We’ll have interviews with experts who understand these issues and who can explain them in ways that will move, enlighten and empower you.

We’ll also give you information on what you can do to make a difference. You don’t have to quit your job, leave your family or join the Peace Corps to be part of the solution. There are little things you can do, change or give that will help make a big difference.

It’s a tough world out there. Join us on our journey to make it a better one.

I’m doing the show with my good friend, the CEO of The Podcast Network, Cameron Reilly. Cam is brilliant on social issues. He’s been a great inspiration to me, as well as to many others. I’m just along for the ride, having fun, and enjoying the chance to give back to the world community what I hope will grow into a popular and useful resource.

I have to say that it’s very weird to do a show without Michael. I love Cam, but we don’t yet have the on-air chemistry that (I hope) Michael and I have. Listeners of this show will recognize that in The Better World Show’s opening, I try to follow the same format that we do here on this show, but Cam and I mess it up!  I think that only listeners of The Digital Photography Show will catch just how badly we do it.

And, since it is our first show, please forgive us the occasion bump or stumble.

The funny thing is, I could never have done The Better World Show without the encouragement and participation you’ve given us on this show. Your unbelievably nice feedback has given me the confidence to do the new show. Having “met” so many of you through email and other means, you’ve shown me just how many kind and giving people there are out there. Thank you for that.

On a more practical level, the financial success of The Digital Photography Show has really helped sustain and grow The Podcast Network, which is hosting The Better World Show.  Without the support of our sponsors Alien Skin, Wacom and DXO Labs, and your support of them, we couldn’t be providing a resource like this.

You can check out the show’s homepage at http://betterworld.thepodcastnetwork.com/ and listen from there, or, from that site, subscribe through iTunes, RSS, or other means. The show is so new, that it’s not showing up in an iTunes search yet, but it should soon.

As we say on the first episode, big media makes the issues that challenge the world seem impossibly complicated and overwhelming. But we think we can present them in a way that’s easy to understand and relate to. Some of what the world most desperately needs are the things we’ve understood since Kindergarten – fairness, equality, freedom, and kindness. And we, in the privileged, developed world, really need to learn to share our toys.

If you get a chance, give it a listen. Send me an email at thedigitalphotographyshow@gmail.com,  or leave a note on The Better World Show blog if you want to let us know what you think. We’d love to hear from you.

And if you like what you hear, please help us spread the word

Go out in the world in peace,

Scott
