Great show ..... keep up the good work boys (& honorary boy, laurel)

The MPIX service sounds really great . . . but only if you live in the US. Does anyone from the UK have a recommendation for a UK-based, similar hi-end service ?

Also for those commenting on the problem with program length when listening in the car why bother burning to CD at all? Why not listen using an MP3 player via cassette adapter or FM transmitter played through car radio or cassette.
Saves buring CDs and hence less wasteful.

Best wishes

Just lisened to this show. Laurel did a great job, especially during the MPIX discussion. She asked questions that I thought of when listening and it was really infromative.

More interaction like this defintely adds value to the podcast.

Wow!!! Thank you Jamie and Elizer for commenting on the show and the compliments. It was a pleasure to stand in for Michael!

Jamie...thanks for the tips on getting the special pricing with Adobe. I am not sure what I am going to do.

The other day, I processed a shoot entirely on my macbook using Lightroom and it was so much easier. For some reason Lightroom really seemed to zip with the Mac.

I then saved the photos as a catalog and imported the catalog on my PC with Lightroom. The pictures were great. You can see them from my web site at www.laurelhousden.com the grouping is called Project Gainesville.

I am not ready to make the leap...I am thinking that I will upgrade once Leopard comes out and go to a Macbook Pro.

Cheers,
Laurel

oh I forgot to add that in order to get the cross-grade pricing you must call Adobe customer service and ask about it. It is not offered on their website. It takes a bit of time to go through all the paperwork (have your windows version serial number handy), but the customer service rep I worked with was awesome. She also told me that they do at least 10 or so of these cross-grades a day!

Hi! great show! I missed Michael, but Laurel you were great! Maybe you can move to a triple-host podcast, Scott? :)

I wanted to let you know, Laurel, you mentioned on the show about using your Photoshop Windows version on the Mac. Well, you cannot do that because they use different licensing engines (or so I'm told). However, having recently made the leap and switched from windows to Mac (best tech decision of my life!) I called Adobe to see if they had any special pricing so that I could make the switch as inexpensively as possible. And they do!

It's called "cross grade" pricing. Basically you pay upgrade pricing to switch your license from windows to a Mac version, but you get the full version of the product (I am using the full Creative Suite, so this was significant savings). The caveat is you must destroy your windows version, since you are replacing one with the other in this case. If you want to continue to use both, then I would guess you'd need to buy the full thing, though. (but Jif you are a member of NAPP www.photoshopuser.com you get some discounts :) ).

Keep up the great work!

I was wondering if you might address this issue on one of your shows. I typically shoot RAW, and process and save my images in the Adobe color space. When I plan on posting one of these images to my flickr account on the web, I change the color space to sRGB and save it as a separate file. I've noticed, however, that when I upload these images to the web, they lose a lot of color and contrast. Most recently, I was working on an image and when I converted it to sRGB, there was an immediate and obvious loss in color. This led me to suspect that I was going about this all wrong, so I did a google search and found that I'm either doing it exactly right or exactly wrong depending on who's opinion I read (surprise!).

Maybe you could tap your amazing resources and interview an expert to let your listeners know the best way to process images for the web, and to answer the question, should the color space be changed to sRGB at the beginning or at the end of the process (or at all)?

Thanks a bunch for your podcast!

Hi Scott:
Thanks for the recommendation on the $10.00 piece of watermarking software called uMark Professional.

I immediately went to the www.uconomix.com/ website and purchased it. I have already watermarked several hundred of my photographs.

Thanks again.

Hi Mike,

Thank you very much for the encouragment! I would love to do more shows in the future! I have some breaking news to share very soon. I am the finalist in the Loews Find Inspiratin Photo Contest: www.lowesfindinspiration.com and I am going to need everyone's help in voting for my Blue Sanibel Shell from August 28th through September 8th. I am hoping that Scott and Micahel will announce offically on the next show.

The finalist picture is:

Ditto on the length. My only time to listen is in the car, and that means a CD. I can edit the thing down into two pieces, but it takes time.

It's your podcast, and you can do whatever you want, but some consideration for the listeners would be appreciated.
At some point, trying to split the show is just going to get old.

thanks.

Anyone been on any of the NYIP course - they look good on paper, but it would be good to hear from anyone who has been on a course - Scott, was this the course you've been on?

I emailed them yesterday with some specific queries around pricing and content, but no reply as yet.

If I were a professional photographer then 8 grand for a tool of this caliber is nothing. Considering that I am not a pro, the 40D is right up up my alley.

Although, I am going to wait till the 40D is reviewed before I purchase. I might go for a less expensive (possibly pre-owned) 30D or an XTi (400D) that would use the same batteries as my Rebel XT (350D).

I really enjoyed today's show. The show is really getting better and better.

Laurel, your questions were great. You fit right in with many of us listeners. For me, this specific podcast is fresh and relative to my interests in photography. The three of you manage to ask questions that I am hoping someone would ask; usually my personal interests are not covered.

Kudos to Michael for the surprise he produced for the queen of all contests.

Keep the podcasts coming, they are both entertaining and educational.

Have not had a chance to listen ye, but the length is prohibitive to CD burning for those that listen when behind the wheel. Any chance you could split the longer ones up into 2 segments (like a part 1 and a part deux)? :) Will try to set down tonight but no guarantees that I can steal an hour back from the wife on an already busy weekend... :)
