I subcribe via iTunes and an unable to download the current episode as well as any old episodes. I receive this error message: “stopped (err = -3259). I am still able to download other podcaasts with no problems.

Hey folks, Cameron here from TPN HQ. There are intermittent server timeouts happening and if you’ve only received a partial file that may be to blame. The actual mp3 file seems okay, I just downloaded the whole thing from the page and it worked okay for me. Let me know if you’re continuing to have problems and I’ll get onto it straight away! Apologies for the recent problems, TPN is experiencing a few little growing pains and we appreciate your patience and support!

We have started a Flickr Group for The Digital Photography Show. Right now I just have one discussion started -asking everyone to sign and and let us know who you are, where you are from, and how long you have been a listener of the show.

One of our listeners, Frank - who does fantastic HDR photography - gave us the suggestion. Thank you!

In the near future we will have group projects and mini assignments. If you have any suggestions on those topics for the group - please use the Flickr discussion to post.

Landya,

I don’t actually think he was snapping away while laying on the ground. I base that opinion on the position of the camera strap. I think the shot was captured as he was falling to the ground.

That being said … that is a MINOR point. I am so happy that you brought this article to the attention of us.
These sorts of injustices need to be publicized as much as possible and everywhere possible. I will be blogging this myself and telling everyone I know about it.
I love the shot of the Buddhist monks marching in the street. I do not label myself as a Buddhist (labels are not necessary) but I do study Buddhism and I applaud my brothers for marching and showing their courage.

I also have a Canon 50mm f/1.8 and for the price it can not be beat! Everyone says that an 85mm is a perfect portrait lens and that is about what you get with the 50. I have a question too. I just downloaded the trial version of DXO pro, and was wondering, when you process your RAW files do you use the default settings, or do you use custom settings, bumping up saturation, noise,or sharpening? Thanks, love your show, even #68, you let us be a part of you family. Glad to hear your son is doing so well Scott. Keep up the good work. Jack

Hi Laurel,

I bought the 50mm f/1.8 when I first got my D70. It is a great deal for $100. In retrospect I might have been happier with the f/1.4 version.

I used the lens mostly for low light shots of my family around the house. I quickly realized that the lens was too tight. I don’t have a big house and I am right next to my kids when I shoot and sometimes I simply do not have enough room to step back to get the shot I want.

I ended up getting a Sigma 20mm f/1.8 for a 30mm field of view. It turned out that I was over compensating. It was way too wide. It is a nice lens, but it pretty much goes unused these days.

Then I got the 35mm f/2. I love this lens. The field of view is around 52mm. The perspective is just right and it is very sharp. It is also pretty small/light/compact. I still use this lens quite a bit for inside shooting. I have to admit that the Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 lens is extremely sharp. This lens covers the range of my 20mm/35mm/50mm lenses with a slight hit of light loss and a big hit with the extra size and weight. IT is a small beast.

If I could do it again, I would get the Sigma 30mm f/1.4. IT has a 45mm field of view and very sharp. Of course the 1.4 is the big draw, plus the autofocus is silent, fast, and has full-time manual override like the AF-S lenses. Nikon really needs to start revamping their line of prime lenses to be AF-S, although I hope they do not take away the aperture rings and make them “G” lenses.

Thanks for interviewing Chris Orwig. His tutorials on Lynda.com have really helped me not only understand how to process my pictures in PS and Lightroom - but to SEE more creatively behind the lens.

Question about the 50mm prime lens. Because of the 1.5 crop factor on my Nikon D70s - should I purchase a 30mm prime lens (which turns into a 50mm) or should I get the 50mm lens (which turns into a 70mm)

Any suggesions would be really helpful.

The contest looks like a lot of fun. I am ready to rock - submit your pictures!!
