Anyone Own a Hotel In NYC?

October 13, 2007: As I’ve talked about on the show, I leave this week for PhotoPlus Expo in New York City.  I was all set to stay with family…but those plans fell through.

Anyone want to guess how much a hotel costs in the city at this late date?  Most are over $500/night. Yikes!

So, you never know…I thought I’d check here…anyone out there own a NYC hotel? Work at one?  Have access to a friends and family rate?

If so, please send me an email at TheDigitalPhotographyShow@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Scott

    Scott,

Been there done that my friend. Changing plans like that stinks. For NY the best workaround is to think NJ. It’s not that far away and there usually is shuttle service fairly cheaply (sometimes gratis), so check on the NJ side. I did a quick check on travelocity for hotels and they are under a hundred a night ($79 for the cheapies).

Have fun at the PhotoPlus Expo…will be interested in hearing your report afterwards. Keep up the great work!

Scott: I, too, had to find a room in Manhattan for this week and it was not fun (fortunately for me, I’m traveling on business and could do a higher priced room.)

Another thought for you may be hotel properties near the airports (LGA and JFK). I just ran a search for Marriott properties near JFK and found availability and rates of $319 / night at the Courtyard (still “Yikes” territory but not $500!!!) for the dates of the show. Maybe that’s doable?

Good luck! Love the show. Hope your son continues to do well.

    Scott,

If you are not afraid to drive to ride the Water Taxis from Hoboken, then I would plan to stay in NJ somewhere along Rt 46 near Wayne, Fairfield, or Parsippany. Although, in RUsh hour, it take an extra 15 minutes to travel the few miles between Parsippany and Fairfield.

It would be easy to find a hotel near a station along the main train between Trenton and NYC and then you could ride NJ Transit int NYC (Penn Station). It is not far from Madison Square Gardens to the Javits Center. Plus round trip to the city is $25.00 and parking is extremely cheap if you are not at Trenton.

Of course, I am thinking that you would be driving from DC to NYC like me. Most people take the shuttle flights.

I hope all works out for your trip to Photo Expo Plus. I might take the train from Philly and visit the event on Saturday.

    Thanks all.

It looks like I will be staying in NJ, unless one of the Hiltons or Marriotts writes in to rescue me. C’mon, Paris – I know you’re a listener…let’s see some loving, girl.

C – if you’re there on Saturday, you have to come to the meet up I talk about on show number 71!

Brooklyn might be a little cheaper. also, you would not be more than an hour away from the loocation, or the airport.

    Scott,

Have you tried the hotel bidding sites for a bargain e.g. priceline.com – I frequently have gotten fantastic last minute deals via this route.

Scott, call around there maybe a cool B&B in Brooklyn and taxis go to Brooklyn…NJ outside of Hoboken and you have a hike into the city,

    Apparently…there seem to be many…
