Great Deal on the Canon 5D if you also want a printer
November 1, 2007: The full-frame and much beloved Canon 5D is available at a few reputable dealers for around $2,170.Â
Adorama Camera has it for that same price but they’re throwing in a $500 rebate on two tabloid-sized very well regarded Canon printers . Here’s how they explain the math
$500 Mail in Rebate When you purchase A Canon Pro9000 (409.95 = ZERO after Rebate) or Pro9500 (749.95 = 249.95 after rebate)Â
Now, if it’s really a $500 rebate, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t be getting $90 back if you got the Pro9000, but, whatever. It’s still a great deal.
UPDATE: I just was doing a price check on BH Camera, and I see they also have this deal...only they don’t list it on the 5D product page - it’s only viewable on the Pro9000 page, and kind of buried there.Â
Turns out its a Canon rebate, but its not being consistently or prominently promoted by every dealer. I guess they’re trying to keep it a secret. But now you know.
All of this is happening against a backdrop of rumors that the 5D will soon be replaced by its successor…the 6D, one assumes (but why not the 5E?). The rumors seem to be pointing towards a February/March 2008 release, but those guesses tend to be wrong as often as they are right. The USA’s biggest photo show is at the end of January, so that would make sense, but you never know.

Why not a 5D mark IIs?
Personally I’m looking forward to buying myself a 40D…perhaps in the spring. I still haven’t had the chance to play with one, but I’ve heard you guys on the DPS talking it up a couple times. I have a 20D, but I imagine the resale value on those has fallen through the floor by now.

Just picked up one, still an amazing, no-frills camera with spectacular image quality. Will last me a good while despite whatever is coming (and you can be sure it will be a 5D+ with 40D features, so if you don’t need things like a larger LCD, live view and the cross-focus system, this is a great buy).

Hey Guys, (Scott / Michael / Laurel),
Trust you are all doing well. Good last podcast. Looking at getting a 40D soon. Want to be sure that all my lenses from my Rebel will work, same mount etc…. Do you know if any of my other Rebel accesories will work on the 40D - BG-E3 battery grip, Speedlite 430EX?
P.S. How’s the contest going?
