The one drawback I can think of might be if you want listeners to be able to post their own pictures for free. For that, I would suggest you contact the proprietor; it is still a low-key site, and I’d guess they’d be extremely pleased to have you as users. So, they might well be willing to accommodate such a need, if indeed it exists.

Absolutely great business. Always getting better and adding more features. I designed my Christmas card this year with their new card options. I recommend Smugmug with all kinds of fanfare! (sorry for the pun)

I ignored phanfare’s announcements and when the upgrade came I was P!$$ED. No default public access, requirement to login to the site (guess they want to harvest my friends & family for further marketing). I just wasn’t happy. Sent in a complaint. The response? Hey, if you don’t like it, hit the highway. Gave me a link to smugmug and an offer to refund my prorated fee.

Not my idea of customer friendly. They said that, “we were attracting a greater number of small business users than the audience we wanted to become our target market – family photo sharing”.

I guess you pay for an advertised service and then, if the provider doesn’t like the way things are working out, they can change the agreement at any time.

I’m looking for a new site to host my photos: flikr is out for me–it’s too “public”. I liked phanfare as I could refer friends and family without having to worry about people with “undesirable” motives browsing my photos.

Anyway, two thumbs down for phanfare’s “upgrade”. THREE thumbs up for The Digital Photo Show!

I have several authors submitting announcements and recaps for their own photowalks, and if you don’t find one in your area, I’ll help you get a group started.

which has been around since 1999. It’s not free but they don’t bombard you with pop-up ads and banners. Cost is US$23 yearly for 500 Megabytes of photo storage or US$60 yearly for 1500 Megabytes of photo storage.

As Scott and Michael was discussing Smugmug I checked it out. There doesn’t seem to be any free trials like Flickr has. Maybe that could be arranged for all of us when you interview the Smugmug guys (assume it is on the to-do list).

I just wanted to share a couple of very informative sites that I have been trolling through this week. One is Moose Petersons site (if you read Scott Kelby’s blog you have heard of Moose Peterson). Another site is by Ken Rockwell, http://www.kenrockwell.com. If you click on the How-To link he has literally a hundred or so very informative articles. The articles range from reviews to opinion to lessons. In his gallery he also has a section for ‘How I took this shot’. After reading these two sites my head if completely full!

I used the meetup website several months ago to finally find a photo club near home (between Baltimore and DC). All the other clubs in the area involved too much travel time. I like the idea of the photowalk along with joining a club to actually go out and take photos with people with a similar interest. The photo club I joined through meetup is pretty cool – we meet at a restuarant, do a lot of talking, and trade a ton of good info and ideas but don’t often get out and take photos.

Anyone out there want to participate in a photowalk in the DC, Baltimore, Columbia MD area?
